I got my JD model 250 for $25. The guy I got it from figured it was worn out. The slip clutch was SHOT on it, so I tore it all off and use a shear pin now. Cost me another $18 to fix it. It's a 5' mower. I run it behind an 8N and zip 3" Cedar trees with it - 2" Hedge or Locust. Blades are a little dull, and I use gun grease in the gearbox. Works just great. Behind your 4000, I'd go at least 6'. If you are clearing land for the first time, get one that is beat up. You might have to fight it for awhile, but in the long run, you'll be glad you tore up a cheap, "worn out" mower, instead of a new one....
