I don't know those engines but can give you directions that generally work for any engine.
Remember that a crankshaft has to make two revolutions for each time the plug is to fire, so you will need to make certain to bring the #1 piston to top dead center on the compression stroke and not on the exhaust stroke.
Use the timing marks to align for TDC, i.e. top dead center.
Install the distributor so that the point set has just begun to open while the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug wire tower.
That should be closely enough timed to start the engine and the you can set it to specifications such as 6º before top dead center or whatever is called for.
Before attempting to start the engine snug the distributor enough so that it won't spin but can still be moved for timing purposes.
