While I know all you Yankee's that live above 30° latitude may eat differant kinds of grits; here in the deep south we love White Hominy grits.
A good bowl of grits should have butter and salt and may have a meat like bacon or ham mixed in. It should NEVER have milk or sugar. While it is meant to be a side dish for eggs we often eat it as a stand alone meal for breakfast.
Now you guys are making me hungry. I will take 2 eggs over easy; grits and ham; and a good cup of coffee with chicory brewed thick enough you can almost stand a spoon up in it.
