In 1982 the Law of the Sea a UN Security Council resolution was signed by more than 150 countries. It is really rather restrictive on what can be done about pirates.
Personally I would like to see some Apache or other war birds used on the pirates before they can even get close enough to indicate their intentions as to why they are approaching a vessel.
Probably wouldn't hurt to send a message by hanging up the bodies of pirates in ports as they did 200 years ago. Kind of barbaric in this day and age but sometimes you've got to be extremely graphic to get a message across to thick headed idiots.
Sure hope they can get the vessel Captain back safe and sound and then deal with the bad guys as they should be.
