The remote (solenoid) system allows you to control large amounts of current (several 100 amps) with a small wire (#16 gauge). It can also means shorter battery and starter cables. If your tractor has no key, you can locate the remote switch in a hidden spot and provide some level of security. The down side: An additional part to purchase and one more to fail. If you want to keep it original, then the big switch is your choice, if you don't care I would go remote..
