Mine has been the same way since I got it. I have noticed others are that way. I also have a 1 1/8 shaft. I never felt a need to change it.....the adapters work fine. The seals are simple to replace. If you ever need to work on it, put the rear wheels on car ramps, and then you don't even need to take the oil out of the tranny. A hill works as well.
