Put the thin weight oil in a worn engine and let the temperature get above 100 degrees F and work the engine hard and you probably will agree with Mark if it is your engine. One size does not fit all, in sock sizes or oil viscosities. The multigrade is a sales gimmick to keep the stocking inventories down and it does function adequately in a new engine or one in good condition. Not having a choice reduces the mental strain on some people also. All this tired iron that we all enjoy survived on single wt. oils intelligently used; based on the ambient temperatures, by thinking people. Maybe we still need to keep on minds in gear.
