Can't get into the argument too much about this specific situation, but I'll tell you one thing for sure. At very cold termperatures, like -30 degrees or even colder, 10W30 does NOT have the same thin viscosity as the straight single-grade 10 weight for cold start-up, not even close. I assume 10W30 means the qualities of a 10W oil in winter conditions, but up here in Alberta, you'd get a lot of people arguing with you. However, almost everyone uses 5W30 year round now in almost everything, even in very hot summer driving so I don't know.
