Did you look at the NH? If I remember correctly the Gehl linkage pivots at the back so when the bucket is raised it comes closer to the cab, giving you less reach. I have an older NH but I love the vertical lift esp since skidsteers dont have much reach. As far as size, I would buy the biggest one you can afford. I borrowed my buddies skidsteer before I had mine. His lifted 1300 lbs. What a pain. THe thing was always tipping over when moving round bales. Then I would tear the twine and the bale would start to come unwrapped. Now I have one that lifts 2300 lbs. Its great. You have to remember that with round bales the load is further away from the cab so the machine cant lift as much as it is rated for. An 850 lb round bale was all my buddies 1300 lb lift loader wanted...
