Bill, You got me wondering, so I went out and checked my '30... The only thing that I remotely see, as Richard suggested, is an engine tag.
Could it maybe be a hole set up for an oil pressure guage or something else? My non-professional opinion would be:
Yeah, plug that sucker off.
