Karl , the way you descibed your wagon deck is the way I have always built them. Now , listen to what Jerome has to say. The way Jerome describes building a deck , is the way I have seen the "Amish" build there wagon decks. Only the Amish people use 1" lumber for there decking. Although the 1" works ok , it is a little bouncy neer the out side edges. I would use 2 x material if it were my wagon. Bolting the deck together is also good. The one thing you don't want to do is use preasure treated yellow pine. People are so missled on preasure treated lumber. In reality , it is nothing but junk. You are much much better off going to the local saw mill and buying rough cut hemlok , or white pine (preferably white pine). You can treat this your self. Your deck will last longer than preasure treated yellow pine ever thought of lasting. Also , you can't beat the low cost of lumber from the saw mill , as compared to store or lumber yard prices.
