Farmers have spread cow /hog/chicken etc waste directly on fields forever and still do today. We all eat directly or indirectly from these fields.If she is worried about eating a "ground" vegetable and what it may be sitting in then it shouldn't matter whether it's near a septic field or not. Soil is full of organisms and rotting vegatation whether it is from a septic system or not. If it sits on the ground then it needs to be washed thoroughly , PERIOD! She probably is gonna find "some" reason to not eat from a garden no matter where you plant it. Some would rather buy it all from store where it is 100% pure right from South America where there are little to no regulations on growers/handlers or shippers. Good clean stuff I'll tell ya! How many sauminila cases do you hear of from farmers eating from their own gardens? It's nice to "keep Ma Ma happy" but sometimes it's easier to educate them.
