Several times in hilly campgrounds others struggle to get hitched up with the fifth wheel if the truck and trailer arnt's both level. All I have to do is get the hitch over the ball and I can get hooked up.
Last fall the wife and I took the camper to a dealer thinking to trade for a newer unit, and the salesman started in on a long line about ratings and DOT rules and warrenty if we use the adapter and etc., I told him I wans't interested in pulling anyting else so when he found out he was losing the deal all of a sudden the gooseneck adapter was all OK.
