Two grand isn't much for a diesel - how powerful of a tractor do you want?

If you are looking to do the engine work yourself, & are under 50 hp or so, gas engines are a good choice too. You want diesel for lots of power, and long, long times between tune-ups. But, the tune-up will cost a lot more, and is tougher to do in the back yard.

If you plan on using the tractor then features like power steering, live pto/ hydraulics, 3-point hitch are really nice. That and a source for parts/ advise (a dealer) is more important than a color.

Every color has their 'issues' to watch out for. International had their TA transmission, Ford had their SoS tranny, and so on. These things aren't always bad, but something to check out carefully as they wear out more, or cost a bundle to repair, etc. When you narrow your search down, ask about these details. :)
