I have had a pump totally hanging on the PTO shaft on a Ferguson 40 for 20 years. don't leave a whole lot of slack in whatever you use to stop the housing from rotating. It will have a tendcy to wobble a little though so don't totally restrict the pump from moving. The main thing on the suction line is keep it from collapsing which it has a tendency to do under suction. That is the reason that it is so stiff. You may have to put a metal ell in the line.
