Bob M's system works just fine as he has it presented. Use the parts he has listed and follow the schematic and you will have the reliability of the GM system as it was designed for the 60s and 70s. Do not use the one wire alternators unless you want a problem with the battery discharging when the tractor sits unused for long periods.
