I've used a Cub with a 5-foot belly mower as my primary lawnmower (about 1.5-2 acres) for several years. No problems with power unless the grass is quite tall, in which case I either have to raise the mower or take half a pass. I usually mow in second gear, though in hilly ground first would be more appropriate. There are thousands of Cubs out there with belly mowers--it was (and still is) one of the most popular uses for a Cub--and though of course more power would definitely be an improvement, provided you use common sense a Cub is a perfectly adequate 5-foot mowing tractor.
