I don't like either company, but cable is not an option for us. Comcast wants 1500 bucks "to upgrade their infrastructure" before they'll hook us up. Never mind that we were customers for many years until we switched to Dish Network, and there's a nearly new cable right up to the house.

We had Dish for years, but a couple of years ago we kept having reception problems. We couldn't get anyone out here, and when they did come they always said the bad reception was because of our trees. Well, we cleared out a bunch of trees so we had a clean shot and it still wouldn't work. Calling Dish for support would get you someone in India reading a script.

For a couple a years I would try to switch to DirecTV. We would order the service, and that's the last we would hear. A month later I'd call back and would be told that the order had been cancelled, no explanation. Finally a couple of months ago I tried again. Ordering satellite TV service is an exercise in endurance, this time I was able to actually get service installed, and it works flawlessly.

Oh, back to Dish Network. When I called to cancel service, all the sudden I wasn't talking to India anymore. I was speaking to a pleasant man with a midwestern accent. He asked if there was anything they could do to convince me not to cancel, for example, how about replacing all of my equipment with all new equipment? I told them it was a little late for that. For the next week or so, I received several calls from pleasant people who wanted to know if there was anything they could do to convince me not to cancel.

So, my experience is that Dish does not care one iota about there current customers, until you actually cancel your service. Is DirecTV any better? I guess I'll find out.

Today's Featured Article - The Nuts and Bolts of Fasteners - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In our previous article we discussed capscrews, bolts, and nuts along with their relative hardness and thread sizes. In this segment we will finish up on our fasteners and then work with ways to keep them from loosening up in the field. Capscrews, bolts and nuts are not the only means of holding two parts together. When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and ... [Read Article]
