I have had good luck removing vinyl decals with a hair dryer or heat gun on low. Just warm the decal up a little and pick up an edge and it should pull off. It doesn't take much heat, just enough to warm the adhesive up so it will release. I would think this would work on the mylar type also but I don't have much experience with them. Also, The ones I have removed were fairly new, not old, dry or getting brittle.
