MORE ON THE MYSTERY MASSEY FERGUSON MODEL

[ View Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Return to Forum ]

Posted by Ken McWilliams on June 06, 2000 at 19:38:25 from (205.188.195.46):

I'm still needing to find the model number for this tractor so I can order some manuals.

I worked a little more on the M-F industrial tractor this evening.

On the top rear left of the block is stamped:
203UA115480

On the left side of the block and behind the injector pump is cast: "BILCHROME" It is in capital letters and is in an arch.

Also, on the left side of the block is cast into the surface: "L86"

The style of the front has a rectangular heavy cast iron frame surrounding the grille. The grille has an upper part with two headlights in a perforated metal section having the triangular M-F logo with a tractor pulling a plow. The lower part of the grille is flat and is a large rectangular opening.

The clutch housing has cast on the surface:
"894-682M1"

The serial number tag just under the steering column has S/N 9AI395I. The S/N tag has the list of U.S.patent numbers and the Canadian numbers appear to have the years in which the last number is 1966.

It has inboard brakes with a master cylinder on the brake pedal and a slave cylinder on each side of the differential going to the brakes. It, also has mechanical left/right brakes pedals going to the same linkage.

The end of each axle housing looks to have a planetary gear reduction.

The style of tractor is the squarish/rectangular shape similar to the ag style tractors except the shroud around the grille is heavy cast iron instead of sheet metal. The part surrounding the grille is such a substantial piece of cast iron, the front of the loader frame bolts to it on each side. The bulkhead bolted to the front of the engine holding the front axle and the front axle itself are massive cast iron pieces.

The older style M-F's had the rounded fronts. This tractor has the flat front with the three triangle M-F logo.

It looks as though I may have to rebuilt the engine. This evening, I took off a hose from the valve cover and a large amount of pressurized air is rushing out of it which indicate lots of blow-by from the pistons.

Any information on the model identity is appreciated.

One person suggested that it is a model 50C. I'm familiar with the Ag style M-F 50's with the rounded front, but my tractor doesn't look anything like them.

HELP!
