USDA AG Census came out last week. 2.1 million farmers in the US (about .6% of the population as I understand it based on an estimated 308,000,000 population googled.). %60 of these farms make less than $10,000 annually. So only 40% of the 2.1 million make more than $10,000. 40 percent of 2.1 million is 840,000. What portion of those make say $30,000 net profit in a year (a small living). Real number of actual farms might be as low as 500,000. Or about 1/4 of 1 percent of the population. A group that small needs a lot of friends to have any voice at all.
