I know a guy that pitched AAA ball until sidelined with a rotor cuff tear. Had the operation but still couldn't get his good 'stuff' anymore...the scar tissue from the operation kept him from getting a good windup, just too painful. But he was playing in a family softball game, in left field when a grounder was hit his way. After fielding the ball, instincts took over and he wound up and threw the ball as hard as he could. The pain was so intense he passed out.
But, that throw broke up the tissue and he was able to pitch again. What he told me.
