OT/ Shoulder

About ten days ago I made a post complaining about my right shoulder.

The surgery will be next Wed. Feb 11. The MRI shows a small to moderate tear in the rotor cuff.

Doctor said it doesn't take much of a tear to make a lot of pain. I don't want to find out how it feels to have a major tear. Jim

I fell off my motorcycle about 25 years ago and tore my rotator cuff. The muscle went in spasms and the pain was crippling. I never want to go through that again.

I have had both of mine done over time - had a major tear in the last one done - Doc. said it will be a two year recovery and then only about 90% - still have a year to go!

I wish you luck- I had it done on my left shoulder Dec. 2006. It took a full year to feel really good but now I can do most anything, just not repetitive. May need same done to the right as I'm starting to have similar pain. I was lucky enough to get one of the best docs in the state, but waited 3 months for the first appointment. I was told by a therapist about the Doc and that the patients he operates on seems to have a much faster recovery time. The therapist you go to afterward will make a big difference too. Don't let them push you too hard. I had to change therapists as the one I saw after surgery was trying to look good by having me doing amazing things only weeks after surgery. I couldn't get the therapist I had before surgery.
I wish you well and a fast recovery. Summertime is coming! -Someday????

I wish you luck. I have torn both and don"t even have a right rotator cuff any longer. Doc said it was to far gone to repair. He said I woul have up to sholder height movement at most. I went to therapy faithfully and think it was one of the smartest things I"ve ever done. Thearapy is very painfull, but I you do it, you"ll have much better use of it later. Good luck to you, Nat

My son had that surgery about 3 months ago, plus removal of bone spurs. The other side can wait awhile.Very slow recovery.Wish you the best

We're in the same boat, buddy. Have an MRI next week, but that's what the doctor suspects. 32 yrs old and it's messed up already. I guess that's a sign of hard work or stupidity (lifting batteries out of the back of the truck with one arm, etc. At least the pain meds have kept me in comfort. Good luck with your recovery.

Thanks, everyone for your support. I almost got cold feet this PM but I'm going through with it. Jim

Had mine fixed about 2 1/2 years ago and still have pain from time to time. Lot of hammering and splitting wood and I know it when I wake up.

I`ve never had my shoulder worked on but have had a hip replacment and several back surgerys and the trick to a good recovery is to do what the Doctor says to do and dont do what he tells ya not to . Recovery is a short time compared to the rest of your life , do it right the first time . I hope everything works out well for ya . these Doctors sure are on the ball anymore , They can do about anything .

As prviously stated. Listen with full attention to your Physician and physio tech.
I felt real good and did too much too soon. Then felt real sore and swollen for months.

I was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff last January. Best guess is that I reached over in the truck and picked up milk jugs off the floor at maximum extension. The doctor said that half the time exercises work, so we tried exercises and the problem cleared up. If it hadn't worked then we would have looked at surgery.

Injured my shoulder last May by heavy over-head lifting. Pain got increasingly worse over time. Had arthroscopic surgery two weeks ago. Torn ligament was one CM long, but still gave a lot of pain. Going through phys.therapy now,and there's pain there. But I guess that's the only way to recover. The pain now is not close to what I had before surgery. Hope things turn out well for you!

tore mine up 2 months ago. done it before. cant afford time off work to get it fixed rite. Doc understands so he juices me with a shot of steroids. saw him last friday. feelin' alot better now.

I know a guy that pitched AAA ball until sidelined with a rotor cuff tear. Had the operation but still couldn't get his good 'stuff' anymore...the scar tissue from the operation kept him from getting a good windup, just too painful. But he was playing in a family softball game, in left field when a grounder was hit his way. After fielding the ball, instincts took over and he wound up and threw the ball as hard as he could. The pain was so intense he passed out.

But, that throw broke up the tissue and he was able to pitch again. What he told me.
