A hydraulic pump does not "suck", it push's. when operating it creates an absence of pressure and atmospheric pressure, being higher, push's oil into the inlet. They are not designed to suck good, and the longer the line, the harder to get oil, and the pump could starve, and get damaged. gravity flow, tank outlet higher than pump inlet, is best !
