I sent emails to both the MN DVS Motor Vehicles and the MN State Patrol officer in charge of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement for my district. Complete CYA responses. They just point me back at the Statute I asked about and will not comment on interpretation or enforcement policy.

I guess I'm just going to fork over the extra $85/year for the commercial plates. It's not worth dealing with the gray area. I should write a letter to my State Rep. about clarifying the Statute while I'm still good and annoyed.
