Father in law cut off left index finger at first knuckle many years ago, he is a carpenter. A coulpe of years ago he cut he left middle finger at the first knuckle. He made one of his employees ride with him to the hospital, not drive him to the hospital, ride with him!! When he got to the emergency room the doctors said it was too mangled to reattach. He said try anyhow because he couldn't hold a nail with his ring finger. They sewed it back on and it's been fine ever since.
