Yes in most cases converting to 12 volts can be a cover up for other problems. But some look at it not as a quick fix but rather a final fix. If you convert to 12 volts you can often keep going when minor problems arise but if you stay 6 volts you are constently tinkering with something because everything needs to be right for it to work.
