hydraulic control valve question

I am getting ready to install hydraulic control valves on my MF231 (so that I can use a wheat drill). I was told that if I use the ordinary control valves like they sell at TSC I may damage my hydraulic pump. There is another type of control valve unit that is more expensive but will not damage my pump. Can anyone explaine the difference between the two units? What is the most common size of hydraulic hose coupling?
