I wouldn't read too much into it. If it's like the 91 s-10 that I had, all the gauges are electrical sending unit types. This type of gauge is not as accurate as a mechanical gauge. Also, with the s-10 that I had, as it aged, the wiring harness chafed against the back of the motor, and would send all sorts of false data to the dash, all n kinds of lights would light up, till you grab a handfull of wires, and tug back and forth to reset it. Then you hit a bump and it all starts again.
