OIL PRESSURE without stealin below thread 1

I have an S-10 4.3 vortex that don't get driven too much in winter but sits under a carport and is fully protected from most elements except wind.

I have noticed oil pressures higher than normal and thinking of bad things are about to happen as I have seen oil filters blow apart.

My gauge registers to 80# and pegs til warmed up and returns to 70#.

I am almost afraid to drive it in a warm up situation it takes about 10 mile to heat up in this weather before throwing good heat

I run 10W30 year round may put 5.000 mi max. I didn't run it at all last winter so I haven't seen this before.

Summer and fall pressure was around 60# normal

I wouldn't read too much into it. If it's like the 91 s-10 that I had, all the gauges are electrical sending unit types. This type of gauge is not as accurate as a mechanical gauge. Also, with the s-10 that I had, as it aged, the wiring harness chafed against the back of the motor, and would send all sorts of false data to the dash, all n
kinds of lights would light up, till you grab a handfull of wires, and tug back and forth to reset it. Then you hit a bump and it all starts again.

probably getting a false reading,i wouldnt put too much faith in the reading, i have a peterbilt that does that, on cold start it pegs the oil gauge at 100 psi, until the engine warms up, then reads normaly, in 220,000 miles there have been no oil related problems

My son put a high performance pump in his 65 Mustang many years ago. By chance we noticed that the oil filter was all bulged out near the base from excess pressure so high pressure can cause problems. It was lucky that it didn't blow out or start leaking at the gasket. I can't remember for sure but think that the pressure relief may have stuck. You might want to check it with a mechanical gauge.

Again,I'd give the same advice that I gave on the other thread. Get a fluid guage (they're cheap). Screw it in in place of the sending unit and find out what you're actual pressure is.

there is a good possibility you should be using 5w30 as most newer chevys.using the wrong oil will raise pressure and will reduce fuel milage
