The bearing caps have to be pushed out not pushed in for dissassembly.
Remove all retaining clips holding the caps in. You can hammer on the cross to push the first cap out then hammer the cross in the other direction to remove the cap directly across from the first one remove.
I only hammer on them when a press is not available.
