You need to make sure there's not any moisture inside the distributor or mag. Check the point gap. It's .020" on a distributor and .013" on a mag. Rub the points with some 320 wet or dry until shiny. If they're pitted replace them. With a distributor and with the points open check for battery voltage on both terminals on the coil. You need the ignition switch on too. If there's no voltage you need to check the switch for voltage. If there's voltage at the switch your wire from the switch to the coil may be broken or not making good contact.
