"Lost" a wheel. Over 35 yrs ago, working construction, was hauling a trailer behind a stake truck and hit the brakes to exit the freeway going 75 mph or so. Heard a bang, and watched my front right wheel fly down the ramp ahead of me. Truck slid to a stop on what was left of the drum. Few hundred feet away, found the tire had gone through a chain link fence and into a motel parking lot. Put a decent-sized v-shaped dent in the trunk and bumper of a car (back when car bumpers were chromed steel). Called dispatcher, said to get the tire onto the trailer I was hauling and he called a tow truck. Kinda felt bad for the car owner but figured I was in enough trouble for "breaking the truck". I bet the owner is still scratching his head about how that dent got there.
