I got a couple XM's given to me - one on a deal from Docker clothing and the other from our pastor. Got one in the house and one in the car. Also bought a home kit for my shop, and when I'm gonna be out there all day I take the one out of the car and plug it in in the shop. They broadcast a signal that an FM radio will pick up, so I use a small FM portable to listen to. I can take the portable FM anywhere within around fifty feet of the XM radio, and still receive a good clean signal. Probably would receive farther if not involved with metal siding on the shop.
You need an antenna for the radio, and a cig lighter plug - should all come with the new radio. I set the antenna on the dash of the car - it works just as good there as on the trunk lid or car top, and all the wiring is inside and easy to hide. The antenna has a magnetic base if you must put it outside - say on a tractor cab.
The home kit will cost you extra, altho I found two for $10 apiece - normally $40 apiece. The home kit has a wall wart transformer for DC power, an antenna that will mount on your roof or side wall of the building, and a remote control, plus some assorted wire looms to make the installation look neat.
It would kill me to part with my satellite radio. I like Bluegrass music, and that's about the only place I can find 24/7 Bluegrass.
I don't know the exact cost of the subscription - wife pays the bills - but it's around $12 per month for the first one, and around $6 per month for the second one.
Good luck with your satellite radio. If your boss is a music lover, he'll appreciate that radio all year long.
