Satillite radio

Im thinking of getting my boss satillite radio for use in the barn and driving tractor which is best can it go between tractor, barn, to truck or hows it all work

I got a couple XM's given to me - one on a deal from Docker clothing and the other from our pastor. Got one in the house and one in the car. Also bought a home kit for my shop, and when I'm gonna be out there all day I take the one out of the car and plug it in in the shop. They broadcast a signal that an FM radio will pick up, so I use a small FM portable to listen to. I can take the portable FM anywhere within around fifty feet of the XM radio, and still receive a good clean signal. Probably would receive farther if not involved with metal siding on the shop.

You need an antenna for the radio, and a cig lighter plug - should all come with the new radio. I set the antenna on the dash of the car - it works just as good there as on the trunk lid or car top, and all the wiring is inside and easy to hide. The antenna has a magnetic base if you must put it outside - say on a tractor cab.

The home kit will cost you extra, altho I found two for $10 apiece - normally $40 apiece. The home kit has a wall wart transformer for DC power, an antenna that will mount on your roof or side wall of the building, and a remote control, plus some assorted wire looms to make the installation look neat.

It would kill me to part with my satellite radio. I like Bluegrass music, and that's about the only place I can find 24/7 Bluegrass.

I don't know the exact cost of the subscription - wife pays the bills - but it's around $12 per month for the first one, and around $6 per month for the second one.

Good luck with your satellite radio. If your boss is a music lover, he'll appreciate that radio all year long.

it will work with any vehicle with a fm radio, i switch mine all the time between my pickups, my kenworth and the companies peterbilts, but beware the wires in the antenna and power plug are very fragile i broke mine at the very end and it quit, typical of chinese made junk, there are no replacement parts

I just renewed my subscription for the 3rd time. I"ve gone thru 3 receivers in my trucks in 3 years. Just got a new one for my birthday that takes a memory card...functions as an mp3 player so I can load my cds to it.

I don"t know how I spent as much time on the road without one as I did. Wouldn"t be without it. Now that the 2 providers, XM and Sirius, have merged, they both are transmitting almost all the channels on either service. I have always had XM, but had access to Sirius for a while.

Delphi makes the receivers that I"ve had. The Roady and Roady XT were good ones. Just got the Skyfi3, no experience yet. The other post is very true about the antenna wire being fragile. When mine broke, I just got a new receiver package for barely more than a separate antenna. I also upgraded to a heavier duty antenna that one of my drives showed up with and left on the truck. Heavier mounting bracket, no magnet, and heavier wire.

Hope this helps.....

Also, they"ve been running commercials for a lifetime subscription that I haven"t had time to check out yet....

Kids got us XM add-on for the car a few years ago, then we bought the adapter to put it in the house. The car got totaled last summer. I took the wireing and mounting out of the car and kept it. New car has XM built in. Called them up to cancel the old account and they said they would sell me a years subscription for 1/2 price not to quit. Told them I only need 1,not 2. She said I could renew for 1/2 price and then transfer it to new account and close old one. I just got a year added for $77. Chris

I have had Sirius for about 18 months. I was actually happier with the programing before XM and Sirius merged. I wish they would play more southern classic rock. I guess it's still better than listening to a bunch of commercials every couple of songs.

Brother has Sirius in his Dodge pickup... I enjoy the talk shows (especially uncensored ones and also the uncensored comedy) and being able to go to whatever genre of music I want whenever I want. Nice clear signal that never fades out on a long trip, too.

Dad has one, too. We use it in the tractors, makes field work go faster when you don't have to listen to AM static out in the boonies.

I would never pay more than $4 per month for it, though - so I don't have one of my own. I have internet radio at work, at home, and I have an old laptop I can use in the shop for it.

Hey, another bluegrass fan! Glad to know ya! I place the blame squarely on Sirius radio for making me a fan. Don't like the programming now with XM, but I'll come around.
