Does it have power steering ? These models have several couplings in the fanshaft that wear out also.
With the engine shut off grab the fan blade and see how much free rotation it has. Hard to give an estimate of how much is too much ? but if you get a blade width or more ? you surly got problems.
If it has a JD hitch that isn't a bad price. And the gas models should be alot easier to work on then a diesel and should also have less wear on average.
