I know what my expereince has been with the big 3 products and Toyota. How hard can you be on a vehicle to go through 3 AC compressors? 8 Windshield wiper controllers? 3 radiators? and on and on......

So mother Toyota takes profits back to Japan. That's probably less than 10% of a vehicle cost. The labor dollar stays here, payroll tax stays here, locally supplied items, construction material and labor, all stay here.

My big 3 products were made in Mexico or Canada. All the above expenses stayed in those countries. You really need to pull your head out of the sand and follow the dollar.

Bottom line, it's business and the foreign manufacturers have won the game. The big 3 didn't have an updated game plan. The writing on the wall has been there for years.

Lets get another thing straight. ALl the news is about all 3 failing at the same time. If that happened, the fall out would be devastating. All 3 will not fail. If one fails, the other 2 will pick up some sales and the suppliers will gather business as well. There would be some loss as the market is shrinking. The baby boom generation was the largest generation we have had. Up coming generations are smaller, thus needing fewer autos, houses, etc. The cr*p is hitting the fan now. We might as well take our lumps and get it over. The economy will emerge smaller and in better shape to meet lower demands.

Bailing out the big 3 to save jobs will not work. If they cannot sell their product, how long do you think they can keep employing people? Over production is part of the problem.

Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
