What six cylinder engine is the article claiming had more power than the eight in 1941? At that time, the 239 c.i. V-8 was rated 100 horse and the 226 c.i. six at 90. The bigger six didn't come out until 1948 and wasn't used in pickups.
Years later - Ford bored out the 226 six to make it a 254 cube engine (in 1948) and only used it in two-ton trucks and school buses.
I've got two 1950 pickups and both had the Mercury 255 c.i. V-8s. The horsepower and torque specs for the 255 V-8s and the 254 sixes are the same.
