Instead of U-Haul, I used a place here in Lincoln called A-1 Rent-ALL that rents equipment to "Weekend Contractors", things like ditch witches, skid loaders and such. I believe their trailers are tougher, and their rates cheaper than U-Haul. I picked it up on Friday at 5 pm, took-off for Fort Worth, and had it back by 8 am Monday. Because it was a weekend and they are normally open on Sundays, I only had to pay one-day's rental fee. Didn't neccessarily tell them I planned on putting over 1200 miles round trip on their trailer, but they didn't ask either. :-) Besides, U-Haul didn't have anything big enough to haul my tractor anyway. I already had the proper light connector and a brake controller on my pickup for the 4-horse trailer, so I was able to rent a trailer with electric brakes. Make sure you get a trailer with brakes! If you don't have a brake controller on your pickup, GET ONE! Or rent a trailer that has surge brakes. If you don't you will find out the hard way what trailer surfing is all about!
