--rear tire with the regular overlapping 'V' design but the ribs actually connect near the middle of the tire tread--I think you may be referring to rice tires. They have very deep tread and sometimes have a center bar around the tire for smoother ride on hard surfaces. Common to SW Arkansas, Louisianna, California, etc. rice and cane areas. Also very common on small grey market compact tractors imported from Asia.

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
