The seals in the front of the transmission can leak, since they've been pretty dry over the years until the fluid level got too high. If the "rattler hole" (so called because there's usually a small cotter pin put in it, which rattles and helps keep the drain hole from clogging) in the bottom of the transmission/bellhousing casting was plugged, the level could have climbed up and oil-soaked the clutch disc. You can try using it for a bit to see if it'll "burn" off the oil, otherwise, you'll need to split the tractor and redo the clutch. While you're there, you can replace the transmission seals. Sorry.
