To find if you indeed have a short. Turn everything off. Remove the Positive terminal on the battery, connect a volt meter to the loose (+) terminal the other lead on the meter to the (+) on the battery. If no short exists you will read zero volts. If there is any voltage on the meter start disconneting and watch for the meter to go to zero. You may just have a dead battery
