First guess would be that you lost a return spring. The springs in your clutch cover will only return the linkage and pedal to the limit of your free play. There ought to be another spring there somewhere (the simplest would be a spring between the pedal and some point on your chassis, but it could be otherwise or elsewhere)) that will bring your pedal the rest of the way up.
