Some soot in the oil is normal for diesel engines. Soot in the oil is only a problem if you have excessive blowby. The dertergents in the oil hold normal soot in suspension so it doesn't cause a problem.
The high pressures in the cylinder due to the 16-18:1 compression ratios cause some soot to blowby at max power with its high fuel/air ratios where excessive fuel is being injected and there is unburned fuel in the cylinder.
I might add that gas engines running overly rich can soot oil also.
