Today was the auction for my mom's cousin.

Auctioneer (Miller & sons- Newton, Wis.) was sub-par. Most people found it hard to understand the auctioneer, what they were selling, etc.

2 nice kicker wagons, 9x18 or so, went for $600 and $650 each. Later on a really nice, newer one went for $1100. We bought a Gehl 920 16' wagon for $400, new apron chain. Also got a sway bar for our 285 for $1 in a pile of junk. I think I was the only one who new what it was.

Massey 285 w/ 6150 hrs, a new starter, ring gear, clutch, etc... and basically $3000 worth of work done just prior to the auction, went for $7500. A decent 399 with about 4200 hours went for about $10,000. A beat up 135 w/ cont. gas went for $1700. JD 5490?? self propelled chopper sold for $7500, the three row head was then sold for $1000 but that came off the price of the chopper.

I forgot what the Hesston and JD tractors went for. JD had a loader, about 90-100 HP, new rears and MFWD. Hesston was about 155-165 HP, good rubber and MFWD.

87 F250 4wd deisel (rusty and beat) plow truck sold for $500. Wouldn't start, needed a battery. They did have it running prior but they only replaced 1 of 2 batteries so it only clicked.

A 90 F150 V-8 4x4 sold for 750. Keys were missing so they couldn't start it.

The Brady green chopper that killed (fell on) him sold for $750. IH 600 blower $600. Flat racks went for anywhere from $100 to $800. Kools KB54 $80. KB60 Big Brother $75. 12 wheel H&S bi-fold rake, $1300. 7 shank Brillion disc chisel w/ levelers on the back, $2500. 4 bottom MF mounted plow, $1000. (3) Gehl 940's, various condition, $200+. 20' Heubner chopper wagon on 20 Ton heubner gear, $750-800.

Tons of other stuff, couldn't remember it all.

Donovan from Wisconsin

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
