Does anybody have any experience with those reel type gang mowers (like they use on golf courses). It seems like a feasible alternative to a pull behind finish mower. I've seen 7 gang ones (In Northern Hydraulics catalogs and at Quality Farm and Fleet) that have 8 1/2 foot wide swaths for around $1300, which is about the same price as a 6 foot finish mower. I don't have a tractor with a 3pt hitch, so I thought this would work for me. I realize it would be much harder to handle than a belly mower or a 3pt hitch pull behind, but that 8 1/2 foot wide cut is very appealing! Also, my ground is not very smooth and level, so I'm afraid I'll have trouble with scalping if I get a 6 foot finish mower, but a reel mower would be no problem since it comes in 16 inch sections. Will they work in damp (from heavy dew) grass? Also, it said that the max cutting height is 2 1/2 inches, so how high can I let the grass get before this type of mower won't be able to cut it? Do the blades get dull easily and are they hard to sharpen? Will it cut through leaves and small sticks? And, just how fast can you go with one? I know that's a lot of questions, can't wait to hear your answers! Thanks, Danny

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
