Walt, for my area the SKS is a very good hunting gun because of all the brush we have and also we get lucky if we have a shot thats over 300 yards which yes is way to far for an SKS. I've looked around for something like a 270 etc. but when it come to what one would cost I had to just go to the old militarily types. Can't see paying $500 for one when I could get one for under $250. I've been hunting with an SKS now for more then a decade and I've only lost 2 or 3 deer in all that time
