Lots to think about here. Not just an tranny swap--he'll have to install clutch pedal setup, hydraulic master/slave cylinder components, cut hole(s) in floorpan for shifter(s), oil cooler + lines, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, clutch fork, clutch fork pivot, T/O bearing. And then I don't know about drive shaft length compatibility, cross member mount location, intermediate bearing for the drive shaft. That's just a few of things that come to mind...
All those numbers add up to over $3000. And I don't know if all Ford SD trucks have the hole in the firewall to mount the master cylinder--it's a "twist-lock" setup, not just a drilled hole....I'm thinking he should try to get an Allison auto from a junkyard.
