In the 50s, I bought a Oliver 70, 1942 with 40 inch tires. They both had cracks clear through. They had a chunk of drive belt, in them for boots, with carriage bolts through them and the cases. They beveled the edges down so it wouldn't chaff the tube. They put the nuts on the outside of the cases. Before I got done with it, I put a couple more in it.
