Pull the tube from the air cleaner off that carb, hold your hand over the carb, it should give a good hard suction there. If it doesn't then you have a gasket problem either at the top of the carb or manifold. Have the switch on when you do that it may just start when you do that. You also may have gas fouled plugs I would try a new set of plugs. Auto lite 437s seem to work best in the 8N fords.
